Annika & Andrew

I shot Annika & Andrew's Temecula engagement session at Rose Heritage Park today, and it's easily one of my favorites this fall. Going in, I was a little worried about this location. The roses were pretty much done for the season-it's starting to look like fall. But this botanical garden still had its charms that still captivated you with the love and care the small  group of people give it around the year. Green, a little wild, full of texture. Turns out you don't need peak bloom season to get a garden engagement photo that feels romantic. The bones of the place did all the work — the arches, the pathways, the way the light filters through the branches.

Annika & Andrew are high school sweethearts, which honestly you could just tell — there's a comfort between them that only comes from knowing someone that long. No nerves, no awkward "what do we do with our hands" energy. Just two people who've had years of practice being close.

Speaking of light — the weather was sunny for most of the morning. The afternoon gave us a gray sky, the kind that makes you brace yourself for equally flat photos. I was already mentally prepping backup poses for overcast engagement photography when, right on cue, the sun broke through. Perfect timing, almost annoyingly perfect, like it knew exactly when we needed it. Got some genuinely timeless engagement photos in that little window of golden light before the clouds rolled back in.

Mostly, though, I just kept noticing how easy they were together. Their history showed up in the small things — the way Andrew's hand found hers without either of them thinking about it. That's the kind of connection you can't direct or pose into existence. It's just there, and my job was simply to catch it.

Wedding's next month. Genuinely counting down the days for that one — if the engagement session was this good, the wedding day is going to be something else.
